In Edinburgh Queen’s coffin greeted by massive crowds

  According to a statement from Buckingham Palace, Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II “died peacefully” on Thursday when she was at the age of 96. The British royal family’s estate in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, where she has been vacationing this summer, the news of her death came just hours after the palace announced that about her health the queen’s doctors were “concerned” and at Balmoral Castle were keeping her under “medical supervision”. According to their respective spokespersons, members of the royal family, including the queen’s four children, quickly gathered by her side at Balmoral. She died that afternoon. Elizabeth was Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. She ascended to the throne in 1952 and celebrated her Platinum Jubilee in June, marking 70 years as queen.  Charles, Prince of Wales, her eldest son, on the British throne as king will take his mother’s place. In line to view the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II thousands of people spent London’s coldest night in months huddled, and authorities warned Saturday that arriving mourners face a 16-hour wait. A tide of people wanting to say goodbye streamed to Parliament’s Westminster Hall, where the queen’s coffin was lying in state, draped in her Royal Standard and capped with a diamond-studded crown.  Since the public was first admitted to the hall on Wednesday the numbers have grown steadily, stretching at least 5 miles (8 kilometres) from the hall with a queue that snakes around Southwark Park. Japan Emperor, Empress head to UK for Funeral

To attend Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral on Saturday Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako left for Britain to pay respects to her and the British royal family who are considered in modern history as a model for Japan’s monarchy. Between the royal families to attend the queen’s funeral the decision for the emperor and empress underscores the importance and the deep bond between the royal families.  Because of a cultural belief based in the Shinto religion that considers death impure traditionally, a Japanese emperor stays away from funerals except for those of their own parents.  As crown prince, former Emperor Akihito, attended the Queen’s 1953 coronation and her Diamond Jubilee in 2012. In 1975 Queen Elizabeth visited Japan. As the Emperor and Empress Naruhito and Masako’s trip to Britain is their first.
